Therapists Practice on Real People Because There’s No Alternative.

We’re changing that.

A Training Crisis Hiding in Plain Sight.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of therapy students and early-career clinicians face the same impossible situation: they must learn to do therapy by doing therapy — on real human beings in real distress. There is no simulator, no practice environment, no safe space to make mistakes.

Medical students have cadavers, then simulation mannequins, then standardized patients — all before touching a real patient. Pilots have thousands of hours in flight simulators before carrying passengers. Therapists? They role-play with classmates who are too nice, too cooperative, and too self-aware to simulate real clinical complexity. Then they’re placed in front of a real person in crisis.

The result: clinicians who are undertrained for the complexity they face, supervisors who evaluate through unreliable self-reports, training programs that can’t objectively measure competency, and — at the end of this chain — clients who receive less effective care.

The Opportunity.

Simulation-based practice tools for therapists

The mental health field is growing rapidly — fueled by destigmatization, insurance parity, and a national therapist shortage. Yet the training infrastructure hasn’t changed in decades. Graduate programs still rely on the same role-play-and-supervision model from the 1960s.

Theraspace is purpose-built for this gap. We started with marriage and family therapy programs — 150 COAMFTE-accredited programs with a culture of simulation-readiness and accreditation pressure for measurable competency data. From there, we expand to the 900+ CACREP counseling programs, then to individual therapists seeking deliberate practice. The TAM extends across every licensed therapist who wants to improve.

What We Believe.

Safety First

The first responsibility of any therapist is to do no harm. The first responsibility of any training tool is the same. Theraspace exists so that clinicians can make mistakes, learn from them, and arrive at their real sessions better prepared.

Evidence Over Impression

Clinical training has relied on subjective evaluation for too long. We believe in measurable, rubric-based assessment that tells clinicians exactly where they stand — not where their supervisor thinks they stand.

Accessible to All

A student in rural Montana deserves the same quality clinical training as a student at an Ivy League program. AI simulation makes world-class practice available regardless of geography, program size, or institutional budget.

Privacy is Non-Negotiable

Your practice sessions are yours. We never share simulation data with employers, licensing boards, or third parties. Clinicians must feel safe to struggle — and that requires absolute data privacy.

Built by People Who Understand.

Theraspace is built by a team that sits at the intersection of clinical training, AI research, and product design. We work closely with practicing clinicians, program directors, and clinical supervisors to ensure every feature serves real training needs.
